<br />
And here are all the grueling changes my husband and his father made. It took a total of about 3 months to complete.<br />
<ul>
<li>Removed wood paneling and all molding from walls</li>
<li>Removed carpet in living room and laminate in dining room.</li>
<li>Removed old insulation and added new thicker insulation</li>
<li>Hired a contractor to put up sheetrock on 5 out of 6 walls</li>
<li>Primed and painted walls and ceiling</li>
<li>Added a layer of plywood in both rooms to even out the floor</li>
<li>Installed bamboo floors</li>
<li>Painted and put up new crown molding, baseboard molding, molding around windows, and molding around doorways/hallways</li>
<li>Replaced chandelier</li>
</ul>

Our renovation work in fast forward.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
The light green couch is the only brand new piece of furniture we purchased for the house (if you're not counting 3 Ikea bookcases). It is THE most comfortable couch I've ever owned. The other new item I bought for the living room was the rug. It was a recent purchase from HomeGoods and I'm now seeing them pop-up everywhere in other bloggers homes. For once maybe I'm ahead of the curve?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A new "old" purchase we made is the farm-style dining room table with painted green legs. I bought it from a nearby consignment store and thankfully they delivered it for only $25 (cheaper than I would have had to pay for a UHaul!). We do have the leaf and it extends to a square-shape rather than a rectangle which is perfect for the size and shape of the room. As mentioned in previous posts, I plan on painting the dining chairs as well as the little hutch you see in the left corner of the first picture. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Scattered here and there are my older furniture project pieces and yard sale finds like the coffee table, white bureau, painting on the bureau, floor lamp, and the rocking chair. The piano was my childhood piano from my parent's house that we moved up from Houston. It was difficult and awkward to move, but I'd like to think it was worth it to my husband considering Annie plays it everyday now.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We love being able to use these rooms now!!! We're finally able to "live" in our new home and use the furniture instead of navigating around and over it. Another big THANK YOU to Brendan and Poppa for all of their hard work. Also thanks to Momma (Brendan's mom), Uncle Jenny (yes we call her "Uncle"), and Uncle Terry for coming over and helping us when we needed it the most. And of course, thank you to my mom, dad, brother, and his fiance Jennifer for our wonderful washer, dryer, and stove. Thank goodness for family!!!</div>

As you've likely noticed, yard sales are popping up everywhere and I can never pass them up, especially if I see chairs. Chairs are my sirens. They sing to me and lure me in no matter their condition.<br />
<br />
This little rocking chair was a $6 yard sale find.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoSk5dN71zvgr-EHSVpchPyQWr-ahTMdYhx0mK3Yb6X17_6dWWAvZMi5Ivv9GyTp_YdZjgOIkp8ntPDMC9nKXYnWIi4JVbG13nPA8F5Gz1gnHkTy3EYZdtNWidBT1OXBdzf5E6CyYj0Uc/s1600/IMG_0796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoSk5dN71zvgr-EHSVpchPyQWr-ahTMdYhx0mK3Yb6X17_6dWWAvZMi5Ivv9GyTp_YdZjgOIkp8ntPDMC9nKXYnWIi4JVbG13nPA8F5Gz1gnHkTy3EYZdtNWidBT1OXBdzf5E6CyYj0Uc/s640/IMG_0796.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It had a cushion and a faint cigarette + air freshener smell. I washed the cushion twice, sat it out in the sun for 2 days, then promptly put it in our basement for future use (most likely for outdoor seating or for kneeling when gardening). The chair was scrubbed twice with vinegar and washed it down with Murphy's Oil Soap. It also sat in the sun for about 2 days and after that the smell was gone. Thank goodness! I was starting to think I was on a "nicotine streak" and everything I found or bought would have a cigarette smell to it (like the bag of batting I bought at Goodwill...boo). I'm not sure why I'm just now encountering these issues, but I've learned my lesson and I smell every piece of furniture, even the free stuff, before I bring anything home. Sure, I may look like a massive freak but it saves me a ton of trouble and frustration!<br />
<br />
I also picked up 2 of these chairs for our dining room at a yard sale.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4DOZ1i-VROorkx9WVIwd_nLcNlJr496aW0Z4YXosEU2T5cmgkf5apFSU5PzvXe3mhY95JcZIVdEIGa09AR4pyCS8QxjIottulg8N6mQMMyhkXpR3TrEaajHqTqWR2xSk1yFpDylJh4VQ/s1600/DiningChair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4DOZ1i-VROorkx9WVIwd_nLcNlJr496aW0Z4YXosEU2T5cmgkf5apFSU5PzvXe3mhY95JcZIVdEIGa09AR4pyCS8QxjIottulg8N6mQMMyhkXpR3TrEaajHqTqWR2xSk1yFpDylJh4VQ/s320/DiningChair.jpg" width="233" /></a></div>
<br />
Sorry I'm too lazy to take a picture of it by itself, so it's a cropped close-up from another picture. These chairs will eventually be painted. The farm-style dining table we bought didn't come with any chairs and I really like the miss-matched chairs look. I'm thinking white or yellow for all the chairs but they likely won't get a makeover for at least 6 months. Hey! Don't give me a hard time! I'm due in 2 weeks!<br />
<br />
Last of all, I picked up this little sewing bench for free this past Saturday during our neighborhood yard sale day.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_-S7cULDsKSjaTD2EA2BVR-E5gG0Ihyhq9feY1kxUqDlZEvUMz2FufL9I7l-Tgpz7HaPKVAkm4o6EkYWRc2QhwRxUELbexTTDiwxqVgcswIhRWAgu7hYLpmyX-_CqCsLDqpo76bHq50g/s1600/IMG_0820.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_-S7cULDsKSjaTD2EA2BVR-E5gG0Ihyhq9feY1kxUqDlZEvUMz2FufL9I7l-Tgpz7HaPKVAkm4o6EkYWRc2QhwRxUELbexTTDiwxqVgcswIhRWAgu7hYLpmyX-_CqCsLDqpo76bHq50g/s640/IMG_0820.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This will make a great little storage box for Annie and the new baby. Or maybe an end table/nightstand? Or use it to hold toiletries for guests in the bathroom? Well I didn't know exactly how I'd use it, but I knew I could give it a quick makeover immediately. After wiping it down and letting it sit out in the sun for a few hours, I recovered the plastic fake-veneer top with one of my favorite fabrics. The blue fabric was what helped me sell one of <a href="http://lovelybeasts.blogspot.com/2011/05/lovely-beasts-made-its-first-sale-and.html">my first huge consignments</a> back in Houston. Oh yeah, still love that dining set!<br />

And here's a preview of my next post. A peek at the new crown molding and new molding around the windows. So pretty! Yep, I'll finally show you the dining room and living room makeover. I know, I can't believe it either. The rooms are done!<br />

When my mom comes to visit next week, it won't smell like urine or look like crap :).<br />
<br />
We went from this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwqJ0I2XN8bOewm-nqoAHPtsWG_RakmsgSwa0YGctZTLg_M2NjJgOgp9-ol_pGOs8XDcNwpkHrLhdzGECigVWLO6ZrjwWyf9jDYoNrsx6hHhHyQPDFlddZuYr1jGqkqMwbqhHUHLOKHVU/s1600/IMG_0078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwqJ0I2XN8bOewm-nqoAHPtsWG_RakmsgSwa0YGctZTLg_M2NjJgOgp9-ol_pGOs8XDcNwpkHrLhdzGECigVWLO6ZrjwWyf9jDYoNrsx6hHhHyQPDFlddZuYr1jGqkqMwbqhHUHLOKHVU/s400/IMG_0078.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
To this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje-wSrUOzUQvma5D9bKMptbhp-p2d-BXG8aL_LUZFx4UUEIASZXytAJmmDxxycHtw6IpqhIJH5FqeAvBBpQsh0iqLLOF2URCVP5jTu1XFq17u7Wk8hx23PGa4NeRA0Tluj5aNJqBIqoTc/s1600/IMG_0809.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje-wSrUOzUQvma5D9bKMptbhp-p2d-BXG8aL_LUZFx4UUEIASZXytAJmmDxxycHtw6IpqhIJH5FqeAvBBpQsh0iqLLOF2URCVP5jTu1XFq17u7Wk8hx23PGa4NeRA0Tluj5aNJqBIqoTc/s640/IMG_0809.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
We replaced the carpet, painted the walls and molding, and painted the wood paneling. It is one of the more dramatic changes we've made to the house and we love how it turned out.<br />
<br />
To get a better idea of what we were working with, here's a clearer picture of the wood paneling minus the fancy burgundy carpet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNZJ1SeHwlKbt8J6RgyP9mRh4p8ERcTboWHvVidoINuEaR3ejxtrcqDxAUxePlaZV1_sdJyaZObcdk3BhGDZidnIaTk0kS4NsEDP7fUR2ZDof-O57vAy_3cU_RmQKHu9jfof6HAQEZKCE/s1600/IMG_0750.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNZJ1SeHwlKbt8J6RgyP9mRh4p8ERcTboWHvVidoINuEaR3ejxtrcqDxAUxePlaZV1_sdJyaZObcdk3BhGDZidnIaTk0kS4NsEDP7fUR2ZDof-O57vAy_3cU_RmQKHu9jfof6HAQEZKCE/s640/IMG_0750.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As mentioned in the last post, we sanded off the gritty build-up that was on the paneling and caulked the wide spaces between each board. We then painted 2 coats of Kilz primer followed by 2 coats of Olympic satin white paint. The same white was used for the molding (which was originally an off-white yellowy color). Here were the progress pictures of painting the wood paneling white.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
We then painted the walls with 1 coat of Kilz primer followed by 2 coats of oops paint from Behr. Even now I don't know what the color is called, but it's a dark chalky blue that I probably never would have picked out myself. Can't beat a can of $7 paint versus $36 though! And I love that the color is a bit unexpected. Although it's dark and you may think it makes the small room seem even smaller, it's really lovely and still makes the room feel open.<br />

The pictures don't really do the room justice and I'm not really great at decorating rooms, but I'm happy that the colors in the room tie-in well with some of my older furniture projects and finds. The headboard was an estate sale find I painted almost a year ago from <a href="http://lovelybeasts.blogspot.com/2011/06/cottage-headboard-reveal.html">this post</a>. The <a href="http://lovelybeasts.blogspot.com/2011/07/rolling-dictionary.html">side table</a> was painted, mod-podged with vintage dictionary pages, and the broken knob was covered in twine. And the<a href="http://lovelybeasts.blogspot.com/2011/04/duck-teapot-turned-lamp.html"> duck teapot turned lamp</a> was a thrift store find. The hamper is the newest purchase from a nearby yard sale. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuUYUXzE_WyhMxU_I1Fr4G_0sjFLcyALNbgQzo4OHG3BBaxl5kXCeCQkigGJuj-J5Ifgd5YegcQDRt0cQGcMq3wrNMThAE2Y2_zenkkGJAXIVK1_OWvAPkEVFF-bW2P0l-VlpZooTXhyphenhyphen4/s1600/IMG_0078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuUYUXzE_WyhMxU_I1Fr4G_0sjFLcyALNbgQzo4OHG3BBaxl5kXCeCQkigGJuj-J5Ifgd5YegcQDRt0cQGcMq3wrNMThAE2Y2_zenkkGJAXIVK1_OWvAPkEVFF-bW2P0l-VlpZooTXhyphenhyphen4/s400/IMG_0078.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It's a dark and blurry picture, but that pretty much describes the room. Dirty dark burgundy carpet and walls covered halfway with dirty paneled wood. Annie's room is much bigger, brighter, and is part of the new addition to the house, but had the same dirty carpet and a slightly mildewy smell to go along with it. The worst part of the carpet was in the hallway leading to the bedrooms from the living room. It was beige and had a HUGE dark stain. You can see it on the floor at the very left in this picture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2T-5fOjFTGtK30NujYDS2fOFF6BRNhkVA_kwCOpeHZkshF_WLHjWQERXgNFV2VTUVtBbm9H5Sj9F5XqAybXjcn1a7PqZExSB91oCSMZFm0byR6YrFW4M3BUXc0sSniknfwx_yT4UKWaI/s1600/IMG_0076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2T-5fOjFTGtK30NujYDS2fOFF6BRNhkVA_kwCOpeHZkshF_WLHjWQERXgNFV2VTUVtBbm9H5Sj9F5XqAybXjcn1a7PqZExSB91oCSMZFm0byR6YrFW4M3BUXc0sSniknfwx_yT4UKWaI/s640/IMG_0076.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We had hoped we could clean the stain, but it was not meant to be. 3 different types of carpet cleaners later and the stain was lighter, but still visible. We thought we could live with looking at the stain, but things got worse. By cleaning the area, the carpet became damp and began to smell. Not just a mildewy smell, but a urine smell. Hidden odors in the carpet and foam underneath were released and we realized there was no way we were going to be able to ignore it. We had heard from our neighbor that the previous owner had 2 dobermans and we think the dogs used this as their main pee place (who knows why they couldn't use the 1 acre land surrounding the property). We knew steam cleaning the carpet wouldn't permanently fix the issue, so we decided 2 weeks ago to replace the carpet in the hall, Annie's room, and guest room. We would have liked to put in the bamboo hardwood in those rooms too, but with the new baby coming in a month we just wouldn't have had enough time. Of course now with the carpet purchase we hit the max of our renovation budget. No more big renovations or improvements for at least another year!<br />
<br />
We did however save money by removing the carpet by ourselves...and by ourselves I mean my husband, his father, and little brother. At 36 weeks pregnant I can hardly bend over without experiencing a Braxton Hicks contraction. Thank goodness we pulled up the carpet ahead of time though. The huge pee stain went all the way through the carpet, foam, and into the plywood underneath. It smelled and looked horrible, and we knew if we didn't remove the wood it wouldn't be long before the new carpet began to smell and stain as well. There were 3 other small areas in the plywood in Annie's room that had this same issue, so the guys had to cut out the ruined sections of plywood and nail in new boards. A little more money and time spent on things we didn't know were going to be issues, but we expected these types of things to pop up before we bought the house. It sucks to deal with, but it's better to fix it now then spend more money, trouble, and frustration fixing it later.<br />
<br />
Here's what the guest room looks like without carpet. Yet another kind of vinyl flooring in the house! Yay!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjHm4UN4v6xYuXyX59tGef8sB1j9NzJS4Yu4Z4fiMBXP8bm0aiOAdLAu994nH9-i7hb4IkAsIpVhZ4GVLPtM2i5qk3eCSvyMbpZzJkZiqrJ8kNsCClqbzfRgeTGjii47g4uq6bCiSUgPw/s1600/IMG_0752.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjHm4UN4v6xYuXyX59tGef8sB1j9NzJS4Yu4Z4fiMBXP8bm0aiOAdLAu994nH9-i7hb4IkAsIpVhZ4GVLPtM2i5qk3eCSvyMbpZzJkZiqrJ8kNsCClqbzfRgeTGjii47g4uq6bCiSUgPw/s640/IMG_0752.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxG6qIcxpttFy8wuRGVUQDO_s_peDXeA3MQC5sL3b3jB2j8w24xgjBTlLHvNfrq1TBgNcRRnJkd3dum2DZbjASqdApYbxjAiV1OEvrPAtLyLY487xxfyeKbw19esop0gLXNx7lTto-hFs/s1600/IMG_0749.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxG6qIcxpttFy8wuRGVUQDO_s_peDXeA3MQC5sL3b3jB2j8w24xgjBTlLHvNfrq1TBgNcRRnJkd3dum2DZbjASqdApYbxjAiV1OEvrPAtLyLY487xxfyeKbw19esop0gLXNx7lTto-hFs/s640/IMG_0749.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course to give ourselves even more work, we decided to go ahead and paint the wood paneling and walls in the room before the new carpet was installed. We were going to do this maybe 6 months to a year down the line, but we knew it would be a lot easier to do if we didn't have to worry about getting the carpet dirty. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The guest room is one of the original rooms in the house. Our home started out as a small 2 bedroom beach house. You can tell how old it is by looking closely at the paneling. Portions of the it were covered in this crap.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjylLuv_8ZLKCM7AkCaWcUnZkrUIcmFqchLAebZGscSXnXACXNwfhe3kFl0zR2Kg-Y6RPc_VA4CoI8uHgAMB-4Pjbi26uefA73OB1RFFUnH_ZmBG2LQ_Q2WiUq9GYYFwEJKfB1XQgGyTuU/s1600/IMG_0751.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjylLuv_8ZLKCM7AkCaWcUnZkrUIcmFqchLAebZGscSXnXACXNwfhe3kFl0zR2Kg-Y6RPc_VA4CoI8uHgAMB-4Pjbi26uefA73OB1RFFUnH_ZmBG2LQ_Q2WiUq9GYYFwEJKfB1XQgGyTuU/s400/IMG_0751.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What is that you ask? I have no idea. The crap took a lot of sanding to get off. My husband thinks it's the remainder of an old messy stain/varnish job. I just can't believe the previous owners never addressed the nastiness on these walls. In one hallway in the house where there's still floor to ceiling wood paneling, they painted right over the stuff. L A Z Y!!! Brendan and his brother sanded the stuff down and then Brendan filled the wide spaces between the wood panels with all-purpose white caulk.
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After cleaning/wiping down the walls and paneling, we started priming. The room looked so much lighter and brighter!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifDPNlCwKyr-iPSHJzZlfZe-EeJ-PdygrUYpcgEfWJzlL4f4aaMVtW_2c2Hzb49FFZbaVww0npHfQs6faga74rmuZv831sF0m6_F567kawpGcTp9FOd6wFvhADTB_Eevo-jXhooUn3EF0/s1600/IMG_0759.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifDPNlCwKyr-iPSHJzZlfZe-EeJ-PdygrUYpcgEfWJzlL4f4aaMVtW_2c2Hzb49FFZbaVww0npHfQs6faga74rmuZv831sF0m6_F567kawpGcTp9FOd6wFvhADTB_Eevo-jXhooUn3EF0/s640/IMG_0759.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After 2 coats of primer on the paneling, we realized we would run out of time painting it all before the carpet was scheduled to be installed. So we only painted the bottom 6 inches of paneling with 2 coats of white paint before the carpet was installed yesterday morning.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Although we clearly have a lot more painting to do, the room looks so much better. I think we've brought it back to this decade and best of all, there's no more urine smell wafting into the room. Hooray!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Once painting is completed and furniture has been moved back into the room, I'll post pictures. And it you're wondering, we plan on painting the walls an oops color I got from Home Depot. It's a deep chalky blue. Maybe a bit dark for a small room like this, but much more interesting then the other paint colors we chose for our bedrooms!</div>

Before she was dull, lifeless, and contained way too much plastic (the fabric was icky vinyl).<br />

<br />
<div>
I bought the chair as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law Jenny, but the holiday quickly passed and the chair was only halfway done. It then became her birthday gift which we just celebrated this past weekend. The fabric was purchased up in Maine from one of my favorite stores, Marden's. I think the retro poppy upholstery fabric was $2.99 a yard. CHEEEEAP! Because Jenny likes bright colors in her home, I chose to paint the wood with Krylon Spray Paint in Emerald Green. The green didn't match any of the colors in the fabric, but it provided a nice contrast to the yellow and poppy red and helped me achieve the "LOOK AT ME I'M INTERESTING AND UNIQUE" look.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We've been in CT for 6 months now but I didn't actually get the chair down from Maine until last Friday. I had finished painting and re-upholstering the seat and front before I left, but I couldn't finish the back until the ply-grip/curve ease I bought online arrived. About a week later, it came and after a couple hours here and there nailing on the ply-grip, putting in some hammered upholstery nails, and stapling muslin to the bottom, it was done! By the way, I can't figure out how you guys staple ply-grip. The staples never seem to go through the metal for me. It could be because I'm using a electric instead of a pneumatic stapler. And if you're wondering, I didn't have any of the black cambric cloth for the bottom of the chair, so instead I used some old muslin my mom gave me. It looks great although when I say old, I MEAN old. I think we've had it since the 80's.<br />
<br />
Here's the chair in its "DONE, BUT SOMETHING'S MISSING" phase.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is when I decided to take a page from a few other blogger's books and highlight portions of the fabric with paint. I bought some green acrylic paint and highlighted random poppy flower stems. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We needed a kitchen table and I bought a really awesome handcrafted table for $20 at an estate sale, but then I found this pine table with two matching chairs for free sitting outside the same house a week later. This one is a better fit for our oddly-shaped dinette area. The other table, which I will post about another day, is going to be either my husband's or my "office" desk.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3EbM9G25YKI83SNBOJXmgKkhNaoo7u_1DFqczXQlTe3NSgTD7Vh7HDUddqNmmw3Au66vrJLqCaD7mcW5Ga65kZrAkLbgL2ZKuGzwaLaWQyGoUvhAMG0GMKg7Gu2yaeTe7ZmOX_MiIYEY/s1600/IMG_0588.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3EbM9G25YKI83SNBOJXmgKkhNaoo7u_1DFqczXQlTe3NSgTD7Vh7HDUddqNmmw3Au66vrJLqCaD7mcW5Ga65kZrAkLbgL2ZKuGzwaLaWQyGoUvhAMG0GMKg7Gu2yaeTe7ZmOX_MiIYEY/s640/IMG_0588.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Being about 33 wks pregnant at the time, I didn't think I could do anything with the table until well after the baby arrived. But the feeling of uselessness with home renovations struck and I stuck on my ventilator and went to work sanding and staining the table top. I sanded more than half the table before remembering to take a picture. My new palm sander was a birthday present from my husband this year. Oh how well he knows me! <br />
<br />
Here's a closer shot of the stain that was previously on the table. It was already wearing off in a few areas and there were a few dark marks from whatever they had previously set on top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-1GuabjHVOHQzRIk0FZm_fkP3gUAziMoOggLeP729W8nPJVbiDW_BzEQlwyiVRHLIbck1Ryb3bfa05ErgIOi2uSJFAXrO7kBFBcMwyhhvXWS3dEQYdIAgA3Ug_FxWePWBc0uTlAUcUsc/s1600/IMG_0589.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-1GuabjHVOHQzRIk0FZm_fkP3gUAziMoOggLeP729W8nPJVbiDW_BzEQlwyiVRHLIbck1Ryb3bfa05ErgIOi2uSJFAXrO7kBFBcMwyhhvXWS3dEQYdIAgA3Ug_FxWePWBc0uTlAUcUsc/s640/IMG_0589.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The sander works wonders! Here it is all sanded down.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUthq6cc0i9IOLxdULKedmPM4xCIBEtqW5Igz2yr1f0t6t8WnU2qbtTpySjH832ezds2vJPb0xqrtGwVRsbaHM5gTGzpnbbLPXuHVu6i1tihD1AAPKpNs2lwdaoLJYJq71yicy6d1s4S4/s1600/IMG_0592.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUthq6cc0i9IOLxdULKedmPM4xCIBEtqW5Igz2yr1f0t6t8WnU2qbtTpySjH832ezds2vJPb0xqrtGwVRsbaHM5gTGzpnbbLPXuHVu6i1tihD1AAPKpNs2lwdaoLJYJq71yicy6d1s4S4/s640/IMG_0592.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Brendan and I despise light stains and we wanted the table to look like a workshop table, a bit weathered with different variations in wood color. We knew this would work with the pine surface because you can never depend on the stain to come out even, especially when the table is not made of great quality wood in the first place. After 3 coats of Minwax Dark Walnut Stain and 3 coats of Minwax Wipe-On Poly (with sanding in between), the table was perfect!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unfortunately, the table is still sitting outside because there's no room for it in the house. But it should be moved in by this Wednesday. In the background you can see a few of my other free finds. A pallet and 3 wood chairs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbo4ZJDBCywMmhFi-r7XDLEkPSLUXXrhbhyQht0_UmXBidok3OTCo_szMTMmqDduO9SmiVYofbRsR5QPdavI8jaOZT4tXUlwDf6E-kqMpllskFUlvsTFe5yuXEcHPKFNWn3zP_FE7cSqM/s1600/IMG_0668.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbo4ZJDBCywMmhFi-r7XDLEkPSLUXXrhbhyQht0_UmXBidok3OTCo_szMTMmqDduO9SmiVYofbRsR5QPdavI8jaOZT4tXUlwDf6E-kqMpllskFUlvsTFe5yuXEcHPKFNWn3zP_FE7cSqM/s640/IMG_0668.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was so happy to find the free chairs especially because the weekend before I found out I missed out on buying 3 similar chairs for $1 each. They reeked of cigarette smoke though and there was nicotine crusted on to the backs of the chairs. I've sanded them down as much as I can and scrubbed them down with vinegar 3 times now. They sat in the sun yesterday and they're MUCH MUCH better. They smell a bit more like wood now. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a disgusting picture of what it looks like after I sanded a small part of one of the chairs. See that? Not just dust from wood or stain, it's cigarette ash. BLECH!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieTeqx2SRQZ7kZEC1BiJY-L6UNEptgd-w7ZNahUPVqtl_KQaABTy2IihRv5sNGKz9DwX3-YL7q0EkYTwloFIUO1g4S6fIX8kXw23aj81zzQoy5TIHhRYU__7B98bDFSAf-CxqbMUIDNkA/s1600/IMG_0670.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieTeqx2SRQZ7kZEC1BiJY-L6UNEptgd-w7ZNahUPVqtl_KQaABTy2IihRv5sNGKz9DwX3-YL7q0EkYTwloFIUO1g4S6fIX8kXw23aj81zzQoy5TIHhRYU__7B98bDFSAf-CxqbMUIDNkA/s640/IMG_0670.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 3 chairs will go with the farmhouse dining table I bought a few months ago along with 3 other wooden chairs of a different style that I found at a garage sale for $10 each. All the chairs are getting painted different colors. Priming these stinky chairs with 2 layers should keep them from stinking of cigarettes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So yes, I've successfully found free finds that I ACTUALLY needed! Not just junk! Eventually I'll post about the furniture I did spend money on for the new house, but that won't happen until renovations are done. One day...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
Well I used it again! This time I cut out the farm scenes for Annie's little step stool. I bought the stool on half-off furniture day at Goodwill for $4, but didn't love the floral paper used on top (sorry no before picture). I didn't particularly love the color of the stool either, but when I looked for new paper to cover the stool it struck me that it went with the green in the wallpaper perfectly. I used Mod Podge to glue the paper on and sealed it with the same stuff after it dried. Although the wallpaper is old, it still has a little glue on the back which helped it adhere more easily to the steps. And because Annie typically uses the stool in her bathroom, I sealed it again with Minwax wipe-on poly which should prevent the paper from getting wet and coming off.<br />

<br />
Much better! And yes, Annie loved it!<br />

I hate to even re-post a picture of it because it's so ugly. Unfortunately, I can't properly show you the transformation without it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSyVnca9Sb5aEh0DezzzXY7ORaUOyRHiSMw99-T5tHo55oz9L10RWXQ6-Mrp_qS4f5V1sg69LVVQ9mRxnQMYcV9wuAqK26BnTW3nSW_HUaDBjR0e3115sSnZnhL_jjmeTd5aqneHJ_vX0/s1600/chandy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSyVnca9Sb5aEh0DezzzXY7ORaUOyRHiSMw99-T5tHo55oz9L10RWXQ6-Mrp_qS4f5V1sg69LVVQ9mRxnQMYcV9wuAqK26BnTW3nSW_HUaDBjR0e3115sSnZnhL_jjmeTd5aqneHJ_vX0/s640/chandy.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We bought a fun industrial looking pendant to replace it, but I later realized the pendant wouldn't provide enough light. I also felt guilty spending more than $100 on it because of our tight budget. I told myself the existing chandelier could be better if I painted it black and possibly painted over the glass shades as well. Of course, I hoped I'd eventually stumble upon the perfect chandelier for the right price at an estate/yard sale, thrift store, or on discount at the hardware store.<br />
<br />
Well, this past Friday my little home improvement wish came true! I found a brand new chandelier still in the box for $39.99 at Goodwill. I didn't know it was new at the time because the box was taped up, but the store said they'd take it back for store credit the next day if it didn't work or had missing pieces. At the cash register, I asked them if they'd be willing to give me an additional discount and they ended up selling it to me for $25! Not the best deal I have ever received, but when you look at the prices for new chandeliers out there it's pretty amazing! Especially because this one is being sold for $180 online. When I opened the box at home I was pleasantly surprised to find all the pieces there and wrapped up in their original packaging. Even the chandelier lamp shades were still covered in plastic.<br />
<br />
We hung our new light up that night in about 2 hours. It feels good to complete a quick project like this when all of our other projects seem to take weeks at a time.<br />

<br />
Do you like it?! Now this was not the original chandelier-style I was going for, but it makes much more sense in our home. Once we finally finish the molding and move the farmhouse-style kichen/dining table I bought into the room, it will really tie everything together. And although you can't see how the entire room looks with the new light, you can admire our new pretty molding in the background.<br />
<br />
Oh how I love thrift stores and cheap finds!<br />

Now we're on to the molding which is a whole new adventure. Tonight Brendan was drilling holes in the molding and drilled right into the new bamboo floor. Oh boy! Guess we'll have to invest in some wood putty.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here are pics of what the living and dining rooms looked like when we moved in. It's really one big room that is partially separated by our brick fireplace. Ignore the brass grate, it will eventually get painted black.</div>

We actually liked the built-in corner closet (it had no shelves so I can't call it a hutch), but when the wood paneling came down, the closet had to come down with it.</div>
<div>

<div>
Next, my husband and Poppa tore down the wood paneling, added insulation in the walls, and removed the carpet and laminate.</div>

Underneath the "beautiful" carpet was some beige and brown checkered laminate. We made sure to send in a test sample for asbestos and thankfully it came back negative. I guess they say it's fine to lay the hardwood over the asbestos as long as you don't try to tear it up and expose the asbestos to the air, but I prefer to have my family stay away from the stuff.</div>

We hired a local contractor to sheetrock the walls. Basically we heard the same story from everyone regarding putting up sheetrock. It's costs the same to do it yourself as it does to hire someone (if you don't do it for a living or have the proper tools/equipment). So I ask you, why the heck would you do it yourself?!?</div>

<div>
Sorry that all the pictures were taken at different angles. I couldn't always get to the same spots with all the tools and junk all over the place! And please ignore the hideous brass chandelier in the dining room. We bought a pendant light from Lowes to replace it, but I'm thinking of returning it. I'm not sure it will provide enough light and the living room doesn't have any overhead lighting at all. I will probably spray paint the thing until I find the perfect replacement for the right price. As of now, our priority is to stay on budget and we're right about to cross the line. </div>
<div>

<div>
Sigh, I really hope all of the molding is up in 2 weeks. I still need to prepare the house for the new baby and I've warned Brendan I will likely flip out by June 1st if I haven't properly nested yet. I'll bet you can guess how excited and happy that makes him! :)</div>

The first few feet of the paper was crumbling apart, but the rest was in perfect condition.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiYzUZrGBr7hJjhjZw4tZ0ejDCgst_JiTgPVx7GM66nVjN2mIEbEgfjCLWVdMwFiDV_FzJGoRc9Lls7hLPb57LzS3zjiuarnXLNfas3n8Z-IsApBxZkQaMU-QCmi84fVT-T1xYDZQByio/s1600/IMG_0531.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="522" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiYzUZrGBr7hJjhjZw4tZ0ejDCgst_JiTgPVx7GM66nVjN2mIEbEgfjCLWVdMwFiDV_FzJGoRc9Lls7hLPb57LzS3zjiuarnXLNfas3n8Z-IsApBxZkQaMU-QCmi84fVT-T1xYDZQByio/s640/IMG_0531.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And did I mention it was free? I talked to the woman running the sale for awhile when I first walked in, and when I came back later to ask her the cost of the paper, she said to consider it as a gift :).<br />
<br />
I love the farm scenes, the huge red flowers, and the pretty little blue birds! The colors match the paint colors in our new house perfectly. The first thing I decided to do with the paper was frame it. I just unpacked the <a href="http://lovelybeasts.blogspot.com/2011/05/thrifty-frames-and-bye-bye-veneer.html">blue-grey thrift store frame</a> I painted almost a year ago and knew they were meant to be together. The frame didn't have a back, so I cut out a piece of cardboard to fit it from one of the hundreds of boxes that are still sitting unpacked in our house. I used modge podge to glue the paper on to the cardboard.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And yes, I have purchased a few pieces of furniture for the house already. Some new and some old. Here's a little chair I found for Annie at the Recycled Furniture in Old Saybrook for $10. They have some awesome deals there. I plan to recover the chair with a fun fabric soon.<br />

Later the theme developed into "Springtime," then it quickly changed to "Let's not have a theme and just have a family birthday party on Easter Sunday." Despite the changes I still had an excuse to use the birdhouses, but I wasn't sure I wanted to paint each and every one on my own. Eventually I came up with the idea to have Annie's aunts, uncles, and what we like to call spare-aunts and spare-uncles to paint the birdhouses as decoration for both her birthday party and her new room. I bought a multi-pack of brushes and acrylic paint in colors that I thought would eventually complement the colors in her room. They turned out great! Here are the 5 completed birdhouses. We still need 2 more painted by her Aunt Jenny and Uncle Rory to finish the set.<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHVCUDXwylmtoY-xJcdfycGouiRHo2SQMXerft1AIsJe3COApcFPQBBil47W6rk3k18Ks40O40D6ntZD9ggKR59jFa0pTNczCBaDeXjHYTkqQvO22sl22bWgKINGSA0yRaErtwXLVlEMs/s1600/IMG_0528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHVCUDXwylmtoY-xJcdfycGouiRHo2SQMXerft1AIsJe3COApcFPQBBil47W6rk3k18Ks40O40D6ntZD9ggKR59jFa0pTNczCBaDeXjHYTkqQvO22sl22bWgKINGSA0yRaErtwXLVlEMs/s640/IMG_0528.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihsqhEv9K3pj3MI-OZwuWGlp1dTWjj1capKf8HhT3yqpsEevy6jZ2mK7F8fmlFCvKZdosudthV1LRfnbs6O4uY_nngQqhJ-NaYpFHW7rPktLo1Qar_ol6Xo_Pi_jaIPEmlvY4GbQ0L3RA/s1600/IMG_0526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihsqhEv9K3pj3MI-OZwuWGlp1dTWjj1capKf8HhT3yqpsEevy6jZ2mK7F8fmlFCvKZdosudthV1LRfnbs6O4uY_nngQqhJ-NaYpFHW7rPktLo1Qar_ol6Xo_Pi_jaIPEmlvY4GbQ0L3RA/s400/IMG_0526.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div><span style="text-align: center;">Taking a closer look below, the one on the left was painted by her Uncle Terry and the right was by her soon-to-be Jo-Ma Jennifer. Jo-Ma is one of many terms for "Aunt" in Chinese.</span></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8dxbuKBF2hZhzo0nYc_Q7onoKQnyhD37FAXq9zyLLnseEtsSf_s1c-DSSc2PIF6kfQvwlCnd4z8qQ9ruLpyrG4vPWkuVGHxy98Asn4mPieV2FLE28bYe2Y_rOfN4ohEE07hzKiaSbMlE/s1600/IMG_0523.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8dxbuKBF2hZhzo0nYc_Q7onoKQnyhD37FAXq9zyLLnseEtsSf_s1c-DSSc2PIF6kfQvwlCnd4z8qQ9ruLpyrG4vPWkuVGHxy98Asn4mPieV2FLE28bYe2Y_rOfN4ohEE07hzKiaSbMlE/s640/IMG_0523.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The birdhouse in the middle was painted by my brother Calvin, Annie's Jo-Jo. He mixed a few paint colors to make the silver/grey color. Not exactly matching the color scheme that I planned for her room, but who cares?! It's R2D2! Could you tell? </div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8bcZxrZSHE8LAKWU1qKTmTNmjpx5dXSMJReNkhUUOQ3FVirkzTpQD7c-MSIbfcr_BccLB5QENRWmS0fVG9l5iQ61g9-zcsJgmpll3KYo3OlVoFcr9DYKx83QQvCY0oGfre1ZTlTRgRjQ/s1600/IMG_0525.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8bcZxrZSHE8LAKWU1qKTmTNmjpx5dXSMJReNkhUUOQ3FVirkzTpQD7c-MSIbfcr_BccLB5QENRWmS0fVG9l5iQ61g9-zcsJgmpll3KYo3OlVoFcr9DYKx83QQvCY0oGfre1ZTlTRgRjQ/s640/IMG_0525.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Thanks to all of them for taking the time to paint these for Annie's room! Eventually I'll hang them up from the ceiling. I'm taking the idea from others in the blogging world of finding a big branch, painting it white, and hanging these birdhouses from it. We'll see how long it finally takes me to finish that project!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<br />
We started with this amazing pastel geometric laminate:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1frU0K_Rs68mBPGwnbWoLDy279RYAis9ItiN68sahHPL30Fk7EeCh6Qj_sXO0n-BClSo4cAMGuZSnexlRwtEuAn8GOiVHkMRBfjdW7LxPSBMsnu4k1Mj6UEmkZQIGHZI1d77ijHXUFTo/s1600/IMG_0365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1frU0K_Rs68mBPGwnbWoLDy279RYAis9ItiN68sahHPL30Fk7EeCh6Qj_sXO0n-BClSo4cAMGuZSnexlRwtEuAn8GOiVHkMRBfjdW7LxPSBMsnu4k1Mj6UEmkZQIGHZI1d77ijHXUFTo/s640/IMG_0365.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div><br />
</div><div>I wanted a handcrafted gift/toy/decoration for her party and found the perfect thing when I came across this <a href="http://blog.giddygiddy.com/giddygiddy/2010/10/diy-pinata.html">DIY Piñata tutorial at GiddyGiddy</a>. I think Teri at <a href="http://blog.giddygiddy.com/giddygiddy/">GiddyGiddy</a> made hers for decorative purposes, but I figured if it was too delicate, it would make it that much easier for a 2 yr old to get to the prizes inside.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>Annie's birthday is near Easter Sunday and we celebrated with family for both occasions on the same day. What other shape or animal is better for the combined events than a bunny?! Following the directions on the tutorial, I cut out 2 big bunny-head shapes from cereal boxes and a 2 in wide strip to go along the sides.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghSQNs0u6hYr5OW1b1d0Kl2c3P-zAJjFd9yTMr1KX2DHK4GhWlY3WPGHPorpH5HG2swDW0K3Af1F0QJc3fMkl2XjNF6S_hEU-Z4GkISDxHb8RLIuNnNrZB22XAktYQpEYGPkGRYSMJJxU/s1600/IMG_0284.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghSQNs0u6hYr5OW1b1d0Kl2c3P-zAJjFd9yTMr1KX2DHK4GhWlY3WPGHPorpH5HG2swDW0K3Af1F0QJc3fMkl2XjNF6S_hEU-Z4GkISDxHb8RLIuNnNrZB22XAktYQpEYGPkGRYSMJJxU/s640/IMG_0284.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">I taped it together with painters tape and made sure to leave a flap open on the side. Next I glued 2 in strips of tissue paper, cut vertically, from the bottom of the bunny-head up.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPRWmgP4Q0z1U1FgW5gMOjQ88NBDHLwiDVQK4f3vI_k_DiHmVwZoFlyZ0nAIXZePz_ApHy6674KogxBD9Q8FqGqbRsr0lL7X-0duU3Zwl5yLMp7thZ9_7-6k22M7P-tnpv6WjaQ2mXAyY/s1600/IMG_0325.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPRWmgP4Q0z1U1FgW5gMOjQ88NBDHLwiDVQK4f3vI_k_DiHmVwZoFlyZ0nAIXZePz_ApHy6674KogxBD9Q8FqGqbRsr0lL7X-0duU3Zwl5yLMp7thZ9_7-6k22M7P-tnpv6WjaQ2mXAyY/s640/IMG_0325.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div><br />
<div>I trimmed the tissue paper around the shape of the bunny-head after finishing the front, then went through the same process on the back. Finally I added strips to the sides, leaving the flap tissue-free until after I put the goodies inside. I cut out a cute little face from colored card stock and glued it to the front. Because of all the Easter candy I knew Aine would be consuming that day, I chose to put thin wooden magnetic letters and little foam Easter egg darts inside (all purchased from the Dollar Tree). Of course, there were some lollipops in there too...a piñata just isn't a piñata without a little candy inside! Finally I sealed up the flap and glued the final strips of tissue paper over it. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Didn't it turn out cute?! How could any 2 yr old, or any child or adult for that matter, not love this?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIMoYT8ug66zKcZjH96_2aC2cu474Tjc-ZxYHVHiUAFKvrLWPWxGU_8Ri6aMgJAukIX5qy8dGcBEIXgv9Hi_7K31yczIB7Llq_YNrorF45DaGdHqpNacpdwynlfJa7S9Jz9ebNN0t4k1M/s1600/IMG_0367.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIMoYT8ug66zKcZjH96_2aC2cu474Tjc-ZxYHVHiUAFKvrLWPWxGU_8Ri6aMgJAukIX5qy8dGcBEIXgv9Hi_7K31yczIB7Llq_YNrorF45DaGdHqpNacpdwynlfJa7S9Jz9ebNN0t4k1M/s400/IMG_0367.JPG" width="300" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1frU0K_Rs68mBPGwnbWoLDy279RYAis9ItiN68sahHPL30Fk7EeCh6Qj_sXO0n-BClSo4cAMGuZSnexlRwtEuAn8GOiVHkMRBfjdW7LxPSBMsnu4k1Mj6UEmkZQIGHZI1d77ijHXUFTo/s1600/IMG_0365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1frU0K_Rs68mBPGwnbWoLDy279RYAis9ItiN68sahHPL30Fk7EeCh6Qj_sXO0n-BClSo4cAMGuZSnexlRwtEuAn8GOiVHkMRBfjdW7LxPSBMsnu4k1Mj6UEmkZQIGHZI1d77ijHXUFTo/s400/IMG_0365.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div>And here are a couple pictures before the flap was sealed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQpzkZc6ExJeutG8pNrhBDA-o2nHvVZUj5Jg2Z4ERVY-Yt8I6wd2K9B4wFMl9oyfIrgyulBdoG2RYtZrXr8md-CxX40X6NsfTC2MufgYWb9qaZdjB7fzKz65IGUfWxcvM5EY-GpZ3lftA/s1600/IMG_0362.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQpzkZc6ExJeutG8pNrhBDA-o2nHvVZUj5Jg2Z4ERVY-Yt8I6wd2K9B4wFMl9oyfIrgyulBdoG2RYtZrXr8md-CxX40X6NsfTC2MufgYWb9qaZdjB7fzKz65IGUfWxcvM5EY-GpZ3lftA/s400/IMG_0362.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnQhNRyz7GlV8QTXYk-Ous1qIE-BNZSEITC74sQzx8qa4Kr-TDBFFx_i1iBlh9zy9FyyklkrOZUoZ_nvOWx6pl9nCqH-BKxOFkupWbicBsb29tFvzHuLxZpgOCXM2hgNaq1pmpBU5zoh0/s1600/IMG_0361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnQhNRyz7GlV8QTXYk-Ous1qIE-BNZSEITC74sQzx8qa4Kr-TDBFFx_i1iBlh9zy9FyyklkrOZUoZ_nvOWx6pl9nCqH-BKxOFkupWbicBsb29tFvzHuLxZpgOCXM2hgNaq1pmpBU5zoh0/s400/IMG_0361.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>My daughter loved it, although the next time I make one of these for a toddler I'm going to make a little hole in the bottom of it because after hitting it with a stick about 5 times she gave up. Thankfully she had some help from her Uncle Rory and Aunt Jenny to get to the prizes.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSkMG5CxeK6KNT3qitpRLXhoe1jQDcH25KlnsszPdkFXYEpfwwpIbQesjkPRMIPz8OhkvBYiDfjfVZ4UucIDTNbTvVZYYrVdSOfM1xIqy0uJ7YFtiEE7e_D644Oq91J8oletLitKH7zxM/s1600/IMG_0407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSkMG5CxeK6KNT3qitpRLXhoe1jQDcH25KlnsszPdkFXYEpfwwpIbQesjkPRMIPz8OhkvBYiDfjfVZ4UucIDTNbTvVZYYrVdSOfM1xIqy0uJ7YFtiEE7e_D644Oq91J8oletLitKH7zxM/s400/IMG_0407.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div>And by the way, I was wrong about the piñata being delicate. There was very little damage to it afterwards so now it decorates Aine's new room! She wakes up in the morning and says "See the big bunny!"</div><div><br />
</div><div>Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter last week!</div><div><br />

It almost took them half a day to hook it up due to a squirrel's nest in the wires, but now I'm officially back and have a couple new house renovation pictures to show you as well as a little DIY Pinata project. Once my computer is fully hooked up, I'll upload pictures and share a new post with you all.<br />

After years and years of waiting, we finally bought our first house! The closing was last Friday and thankfully it went smoothly, although there is that death pledge thing that Brendan and I try not to think about :).<br />
<br />
We love our new home and have already started a few renovations in the living and future toy room. Wood paneling was the first to go. It had coats of thick white paint on it which was starting to crack (the paint, not the wood). There were also traces of black smoke here and there from intense candle burning from the previous owner. <br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>BEFORE:</b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPesDZH2K-LGshyphenhyphenHxhx_Gtt3zQYJLTxtYD76jyTyoSj7k09is-dTSHO0Gxp1SWsoB1QoZjJL3IunQfn5chh3YY-Up5g-4ClAg75CeToMOWZ6IOUFIkh09CMGunNwImB3xOYBvh3SJvUgI/s1600/IMG_0076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPesDZH2K-LGshyphenhyphenHxhx_Gtt3zQYJLTxtYD76jyTyoSj7k09is-dTSHO0Gxp1SWsoB1QoZjJL3IunQfn5chh3YY-Up5g-4ClAg75CeToMOWZ6IOUFIkh09CMGunNwImB3xOYBvh3SJvUgI/s640/IMG_0076.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
Ugly right? Dirty walls with old carpet that leads to hideous laminate! Thankfully the floors are already up and will be covered in a beautiful carbonized stranded bamboo wood floor in a couple weeks. Although I'd prefer reclaimed wood floors, we just bought a house and well, as you can imagine that can set you back a few bucks.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">DURING:</span></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZcXRGYqr8LmKUfi9Wt0PlAxlskeiUEwRMKtlHm5lbSkw36ezqWppmjRrbm66c1tVTDsmREAg0mMBewrGFf0HQTaXdQnvgs68YqF6O9cT8weuiNKoL8v0hSVL9Kx1dJhWfErtPtJb-Z5I/s1600/IMG_0109.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZcXRGYqr8LmKUfi9Wt0PlAxlskeiUEwRMKtlHm5lbSkw36ezqWppmjRrbm66c1tVTDsmREAg0mMBewrGFf0HQTaXdQnvgs68YqF6O9cT8weuiNKoL8v0hSVL9Kx1dJhWfErtPtJb-Z5I/s640/IMG_0109.JPG" width="480" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There's the hard-working husband taking down the paneling. Thanks to Brendan and my Papa (father-in-law), the walls were down as of Wednesday. Yesterday they took out all the old insulation (only 1/2 in thick) and today they're putting in newer thicker stuff. Apparently, if you try to pack new insulation on top of the old stuff, it's less effective. Good thing we took down the walls and saw how thin the insulation was because now we're going to spend a lot less money on heat!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">What's next you ask? After the town building inspector comes to check out the new insulation job, our contractor will come in and put up sheetrock. Brendan and Papa will then start laying down bamboo in the kitchen and finish in the living and toy room after the sheetrock has dried. We're moving in once the kitchen is complete. Everything will finally be done when we put in the thresholds to the floor, add trim to the windows and doors, and prime and paint the walls. We're aiming to be done by mid-April. Hopefully for you I'll be posting the AFTER shots around that time. And hopefully for me the rooms will be done and decorated by the end of the month because we're expecting our second daughter in late June. Oh yes, the Lovely Beasts Family is growing! Thank goodness I finally get to nest!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I hope I hope it all works out. Already my husband and I have chosen paint colors and have planned out where our big furniture will go. We're putting in bamboo floors and tearing down the wood paneling in the living room so we won't be moving in until the beginning of April, but I'm still outrageously excited.<br />

Sorry It's Been So Long!Hello from Southeastern Connecticut! It's been more than 2 months since I've last posted and I realized that some may be concerned about my disappearance. We're okay!!! We're happy and doing well.<br />
<br />
Moving to CT from TX, living in a hotel for a month, and now living in a rental home really is a convenient excuse to take a break from blogging. Especially considering all of our stuff is still in storage including my furniture projects, craft and furniture tools, and my poor computer. Hopefully I'll have everything back soon! We currently have an offer on a house but it's a short sale and it may take a few days, weeks, or months before we hear back from the bank. In the meantime, we're exploring the area and trying to make new friends.<br />
<br />
Although I know I'll be able to start working on furniture soon (once we have a house), I'm facing a dilemma. People in CT aren't into the same furniture that sold in Houston, and I'm not sure if I want to continue with the furniture buy-refurbish-resell route. I will still work on furniture for our new home, but I'd like to focus my time on projects or products of a smaller scale. Something I can sell on etsy or in local stores, make in a much shorter time frame, and something I will enjoy doing. It will still be an item that is repurposed or reused, but what will it be? I've thought jewelry, paintings, or paper crafts but none of that seems right for me. My husband has one other idea I'm considering (having to do with a bicycle accessory), but we have to do some research before we move forward any further.<br />
<br />
So that's where I'm at right now. I hope everyone is doing well and I'll make a concerted effort to post weekly so you know I'm still here. And of course, I'm always happy to help if anyone has any questions!<br />

Surprisingly Annie, our 19mth old, is doing rather well. A bit frustrated because now and then she wants to go "home," but happy the majority of the time because she's somewhere new and she can swim everyday in the indoor pool.<br />
<br />
As you can imagine, I'm on a furniture and crafting hiatus. We're living for a month in the hotel with only 4 suitcases, and there's a very high possibility that we'll be keeping our stuff in storage for longer if we don't buy a house right away. Poor Annie misses all her toys. And poor Emily misses hers!<br />
<br />
So hopefully you'll see some fun project posts early next year, but until then Lovely Beasts is on a break. Happy early Thanksgiving and Christmas to all! See you in the new year :).<br />

I won't be able to finish my wingback for another month.<br />
<br />
<b>Good news?</b><br />
My husband was offered an amazing job in Connecticut. Yes! We're moving back to the New England area in 10 days. The funny thing is, I lived in the West Hartford for a year straight out of college and HATED it. It just wasn't a great place for a 22 year old to "find" herself. Thankfully, we'll be living in a smaller town closer to Rhode Island and it's a great area for families. Hopefully we'll be buying our first home soon. So exciting! So many DIY house projects to come!<br />
<br />
Sorry to disappoint you all with yet another unfinished project. But look at it this way, I'll be able to finish both the wingback and my <a href="http://lovelybeasts.blogspot.com/2011/09/releasing-chair-into-wild.html">Maine chair</a> from September. Yippee!<br />

Yippee!!! I went a different route with the details on the arms, instead of using piping I chose to use upholstery tacks. Crossing my fingers it all works out and it'll be done by the end of the week. I hope I hope I hope!<br />
<br />
Here are a few sneak peeks of my progress.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLmR2QFIQFKUQ3C-PGg5FfL1UimEuTwq3b3e26WptILQcrS8BQKnevA9nNMlBg_G7akN40dJ1zNu96tbRBrhcPMmo87Hn4zLAAEIzAm-Ssu0qMU9IaQKfDDSUWz6b8BaBww_EiFTKmQkw/s1600/IMG_4095.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLmR2QFIQFKUQ3C-PGg5FfL1UimEuTwq3b3e26WptILQcrS8BQKnevA9nNMlBg_G7akN40dJ1zNu96tbRBrhcPMmo87Hn4zLAAEIzAm-Ssu0qMU9IaQKfDDSUWz6b8BaBww_EiFTKmQkw/s640/IMG_4095.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs63bPPx2eaCspL2p_-JnRe2hOD_Ov7flTI6NY0u8arGnHQnqi37Zp1J34NQ6RYwuc31LcfRYmJygdh53yvNWHXtvaS-dE6iR1R4epeVJThVd3gcgrbAz4D-mG5kgQlCziVbhLwKQR1f8/s1600/IMG_4097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs63bPPx2eaCspL2p_-JnRe2hOD_Ov7flTI6NY0u8arGnHQnqi37Zp1J34NQ6RYwuc31LcfRYmJygdh53yvNWHXtvaS-dE6iR1R4epeVJThVd3gcgrbAz4D-mG5kgQlCziVbhLwKQR1f8/s640/IMG_4097.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-HeBMhE3sLG2HiptpzbNUVsNfj431SFNTJOVtiwoOocZXHEZ1BL4txTgCmXMGzZdLzjSsVWhPZn6FNtgrRkbE288towI_ZZWT2QxuIoGRex659fokRD23c7BClsE8pQyexxIBNWdjLqM/s1600/IMG_4099.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-HeBMhE3sLG2HiptpzbNUVsNfj431SFNTJOVtiwoOocZXHEZ1BL4txTgCmXMGzZdLzjSsVWhPZn6FNtgrRkbE288towI_ZZWT2QxuIoGRex659fokRD23c7BClsE8pQyexxIBNWdjLqM/s640/IMG_4099.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgUliDsKM6n0GgD-XhzuqGIIwImHSIRfMGiu-bF9pLBoY_eCW4eL2lRdEY6qUm2q2GNM9-vkekxNYW_Gb4AH2QBl2pMQdfzaasJ7IXSSJbqZ03rNJE_pxQHHocdoCA1ov4kCj6gBYC9xA/s1600/IMG_4101.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgUliDsKM6n0GgD-XhzuqGIIwImHSIRfMGiu-bF9pLBoY_eCW4eL2lRdEY6qUm2q2GNM9-vkekxNYW_Gb4AH2QBl2pMQdfzaasJ7IXSSJbqZ03rNJE_pxQHHocdoCA1ov4kCj6gBYC9xA/s640/IMG_4101.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
And yes I'm using canvas dropcloth again, but the back and cushion of the wingback will feature a different fabric. No sneak peek on that though. It's a surpriiiiiise!<br />

Almost 2 weeks later and I've finally removed all of the purple fabric from my wingback. I would say that I removed all the staples too, but this monster has been reupholstered before and there old staples in the wood that I'm not messing with.<br />
<br />
Here's my curbside wingback before.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig-_x7_TU5lu6pg0o6CZMD-yYDeFebMe8qN_NyS2UI8bdjLT4n18on806zV9nfh7Q0_FIrn-s47CXUpHxPiDwOzWEZAbzx9bR6j4H9yYMKe2WMOGA-90Mv26ntFUA_4uZQrBvEiiLibrc/s1600/IMG_4021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig-_x7_TU5lu6pg0o6CZMD-yYDeFebMe8qN_NyS2UI8bdjLT4n18on806zV9nfh7Q0_FIrn-s47CXUpHxPiDwOzWEZAbzx9bR6j4H9yYMKe2WMOGA-90Mv26ntFUA_4uZQrBvEiiLibrc/s640/IMG_4021.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
Here's what she looks like right now. It's so awesome how it feels like I haven't done anything. But hopefully that changes over the next few weeks. At least I think that's how long it will take to dress her up again. I have a plan on her "after" look, I just hope I'm successful!<br />

A beautiful sight for those that understand. And here's her original fabric. Hello 70's! Not terrible, but not my style either.<br />

Bleaching a few stains made the discolorations stand out even more (it might be hard to tell in the picture below but they're there!).<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7J9YVOdxW_a4YxcJyBwwn-VkDih7izo5QZNM3gTquj-Z36-JkYa8pu3AXOqN3O48FyP3JKlgNBW2aw3PIPv95_LMepeD4fl9_YawFNrC2ZUw62q2PFg3TOtDHuhJMF8wZMwfY6wd_9Yk/s1600/IMG_1205x.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7J9YVOdxW_a4YxcJyBwwn-VkDih7izo5QZNM3gTquj-Z36-JkYa8pu3AXOqN3O48FyP3JKlgNBW2aw3PIPv95_LMepeD4fl9_YawFNrC2ZUw62q2PFg3TOtDHuhJMF8wZMwfY6wd_9Yk/s640/IMG_1205x.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div>I promised her I would recover them once I found fabric that she liked for a price we could both agree on (scarily enough she's even more of a bargain hunter than I am), but we couldn't find anything at Hobby Lobby or any of the other nearby fabric stores that met the criteria. Then my mom came across a curtain panel at a thrift store she thought might work. It was $10 at the time and would be 50% off the following week. We drove by the next week so I could check out the fabric and it was perfect! They were selling 2 panels but we only bought 1 and it was enough to cover the 2 chairs with about 2 yards leftover. So we got about 3 yards for $5. We could both agree it was a great deal!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />
</div>The best thing about the curtain panel is that it has a foam lining underneath which makes the fabric thick and sturdy. I recovered the cushions that night and now the chairs look brand new again!<br />

I can't even explain what a pain in the arse it is to take the upholstery off of a wingback. I'm trying to salvage the ply-grip (metal teeth) and reuse it when I finally get to upholstering this monster, but it's getting pretty beat up by all my pulling and prying. Staple count is probably up to around 300+ now. Injury count is 2, and I'm only counting the injuries where I bled my own blood.<br />
<br />
To sum it up, I've worked about 1 or 2 hours everyday and have only stripped the back and left side of the chair. I still have a bajillion staples waiting for me to pull out before I can even think about reupholstering my wingback. Sigh, well back to work. Lets hope it takes less than a week to get rest of the purpleness off.<br />

It's painted a bright grassy green and the seat is upholstered with a great funky fabric, but the seat back still needs to be recovered. Sad, I know. It's blasphemy to leave a lovely chair like that half done! But don't worry, I'll get back to it eventually. I promise!</div><br />
So what's the next big project you ask? The Wingback. This big purple monster I grabbed off the curb for free.<br />

This is quite the reupholstery project I'm taking on. It requires a lot of tools and techniques that are completely foreign to me. But that's what this whole blog is about! Learning the trade and turning hideous beasts into gorgeous beauts. Or just pretty decent looking dames.<br />
<br />
Here I go! Wish me luck!<br />
