Shades of Grey

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I've had a terrible cold/sore throat. I've had to take a break from just about everything except being a mom. This morning I was still feeling yucky, but tried to ignore it and started working on this coffee table I bought at an estate sale last month for $5.

It's hard to tell, but the top had a couple scratches that were worn down to the wood. The table also had that ugly speckled finish. Right now I'm working on stripping off the top with Motsenbocker's Lift Off and sanding the sides down with 80 grit sandpaper.

My plan is to paint the sides and re-stain and re-finish the top. I'm not thinking white paint this time though. I'm leaning towards grey. Grey would look nice with this table, but I'm choosing it mostly because I got seven different quart-sized Sherwin Williams paint samples from a woman nearby for free. Apparently she bought 20 different samples of grey paint to test on the interior of her house before deciding on the perfect shade. Sounds a little privileged to me! But hey, if I can reap some of the benefits I guess I can't be too judgmental.

  3. sounds like the best reason i can come up with the go with grey too! I've been there with the paint color indecision...after one really big mistake hiring someone to paint the exterior of my house apple green while I was out of town. what was I thinking!!! Can't wait to see this adorable little table when you're through. Hope you start to feel better soon :)

  4. Have fun with your soon to be gray table, Emily! Can't believe that an estate sale price was only $5.00! Now don't you go being all judgmental on that neighbor with all those paint samples :-) I always buy a bunch of them because they NEVER look the same on the color chip when inside a client's house! Light can wreak havoc on how a color reacts. Better to spend $5 a quart than pay the painter to re-paint the room. However, I've never gone so far as to buy 20 quarts! LOL
Now you start feeling better- Try this tip from my ENT doctor- Slowly sip on ice cold lemonade through a straw. It numbs your throat so it doesn't hurt as much.

  5. $5, what a smokin' hot deal! I love the lines of this table. The estate sales I go to are out-of-touch with reality in their pricing!
